EMERGENT CURRICULUM

Church St. School Child Care Centre offers a stimulating program to develop a child’s cognitive, language, literacy, emotional, social, creative, and physical skills. Through an Emergent Curriculum model, the Early Childhood Educators record their daily observations of the children and plan for play based learning opportunities which support the children’s development of capacities and skills while respecting their interests and choices.

INDIVIDUAL PACE

We provide an environment in which learning is a rewarding and enjoyable experience, and where each child can develop his or her potential at an individual pace.  We often bring in outside specialists to offer programming which enhances learning in a variety of areas such as drama, dance, art, music and sports.

POSITIVE SELF-CONCEPT & RESPECT

At Church St. School Child Care Centre, children are cared for in ways that encourage positive self-concept, responsibility, independence and a sense of security and happiness.  We aim to foster each child’s self-esteem, curiosity, and ability to function harmoniously within the group.  We help children respect the basic rights of others and build on their social skills, with help in recognizing, regulating, and expressing emotions.

INCLUSION

We make inclusion a priority and plan for curriculum that takes into account developmental abilities, and that is sensitive to family culture, values, language and composition.  We welcome family involvement in our child care setting, as we believe that strong partnerships with families strengthen the children’s opportunities for learning and development.  We value our link with our community and maintain a strong and positive relationship with the school as well as the surrounding neighbourhood.
